Johanna Bölja is a Swedish Folk Singer from Järvsö, Hälsingland, an area rich in traditional music. Early on she fell in love with the traditional tunes, diving deep into folk songs to find original expressions and ornaments in lyrics and melodies. Johanna’s defining trait as a singer is her warm yet clear voice, her rhythmical singing style and ability to mesmerize through her story telling. Since the late 90s, Johanna has participated on several recordings and toured with bands such as Hulling, Ditt Ditt Darium and Ranarim. She has performed as a Folk singer in a range of different settings; live music for theater at Hälsinglands Träteater, music by contemporary composer Karin Rehnqvist, traditional herding calls (‘kulning’) at the price ceremony for Polar Music Prize winner Yo-Yo Ma as well as performances at many of the well-known folk music festivals across Scandinavia.
